Meetings produce commitments. “I’ll send that over.” “Let’s get a quote.” “Can you follow up with them?” Most of those live in someone’s notebook and quietly die. Action items in Clarion are where commitments go so they can’t die quietly: each one has an owner and a date, and the team looks at the list every week.
Small on purpose
An action item is a title, an owner and a due date. Type it into the box at the top of the Action Items page, pick who owns it, and press Enter. That’s it.
Keeping them small is the point. If something takes more than a week or two and has a definition of done, it’s probably a milestone — and Clarion nudges you there during the sync with an option to create one instead.
Created wherever the work comes up
You don’t have to go to the Action Items page to add one:
- From anywhere — use the Quick Add button in the sidebar.
- From a challenge — add action items right on the challenge they’re meant to solve.
- From a milestone — every subtask you add to a milestone creates a linked action item for its owner. Tick it off in either place and both update.
- In a sync — the action items step is the live list, so new commitments go straight in.
Items that belong to a milestone show a small link back to it, so the “why” is always one click away.
Keep the list honest
Due dates that have passed are highlighted, so overdue work is visible without anyone having to call it out. Filter the list down to one person’s items, one team, or everything. Sort by name, assignee or due date, or drag items into whatever order you want to work them in.
Ticking an item off moves it to Completed, with an Undo in case it was a mis-click. Completed items stay available under the status filter for when someone asks “did that ever get done?”
If an action item is stuck — blocked on a decision, or bigger than it looked — Create challenge from its menu turns it into a challenge for the team to discuss, linked to the original item.
Reviewed every week
Action items are a step in every sync. The team runs down the list, checks off what’s done, and adds what came out of the discussion. The sync summary counts how many new action items the meeting created, so you can see which meetings produced commitments and which just produced talk.
Connected to your other tools
Action items are available to your own systems through the REST API, and Clarion can send a webhook when one is created or completed — useful for mirroring them into a ticketing tool or a team chat.
