How to create a metric for your team scorecard

Create a metric in Clarion with a name, definition, target, unit, frequency and owner, then star it to put it on your dashboard.

A metric is one number your team reviews on a regular cadence: revenue booked, tickets closed, churn rate. Each metric belongs to a team, has one owner, and is compared against a target every period. Together, a team’s metrics make up its scorecard on the Metrics page.

Before you start

Metrics are created on the team you’re currently viewing. Pick the right team in the sidebar first, so the metric lands on that team’s scorecard.

Create the metric

  1. In the sidebar, open Metrics under your team.
  2. Click Add Metric in the top right.
  3. Fill in the Add Metric dialog:
    • Name: what the number is, such as “Monthly Recurring Revenue”.
    • Definition: what it measures and how it’s calculated. This shows under the metric when you expand it, so nobody has to guess where the number comes from.
    • Target: the number you’re aiming for each period.
    • Unit: pick $ (dollars), % (percent), pts (points), users or count, or choose Custom… and type your own (for example “orders” or “hrs”).
    • Frequency: Daily, Weekly or Monthly. This decides which period each value you enter belongs to. Weekly is the default.
    • Owner: the person responsible for reporting the number. Leave it as Unassigned if you’re not sure yet.
    • Inverted metric: tick this when lower is better, such as response time or churn. See targets and inverted metrics.
  4. Click Create Metric.

The metric appears in the scorecard table. Drag any row by the handle on its left to put your metrics in the order you want to review them.

Put it on the dashboard

Click the star next to a metric to make it a key metric. Key metrics appear on your dashboard. Click the star again to take it off.

Change or retire a metric

Click a metric’s row to expand it, then click Edit Metric to change any field. You can also change the owner directly from the name under the metric in the table.

When a metric is no longer useful, click Archive in the expanded row. Archived metrics leave the scorecard but keep their history. Use Show Archived at the top of the page to see them again, and Unarchive to bring one back.

Delete Permanently, at the bottom of the edit dialog, removes the metric and all its history. It can’t be undone, so archive instead unless you’re sure.

Importing many metrics at once

If your scorecard already lives in a spreadsheet, click Import and choose a CSV file. Clarion reads a Title column (required), plus Description, Owner and Goal (written like >= 10 or >= 70%) when present. Columns headed with a week range, such as Mar 16 - Mar 22, become past values. Imported metrics are weekly, and any row whose title matches an existing metric is skipped.
