How to record metric values each week, day or month

Record metric values in Clarion from the scorecard or during a live sync. Each value is saved to the metric's current period and can be corrected.

A metric is only useful if its number is current. In Clarion, each value belongs to a period, and the period depends on the metric’s frequency:

FrequencyA value is recorded for
DailyToday
WeeklyThis week (weeks start on Monday)
MonthlyThis month

There is one value per period. Entering a number again in the same period replaces the earlier one rather than adding a second entry, so you can correct a mistake by typing the right number.

Record a value from the scorecard

  1. Open Metrics under your team in the sidebar.
  2. Find the metric and look at the Current column — today, this week or this month, depending on the metric’s frequency.
  3. Click Enter (or, if there’s already a value, click the value).
  4. Type the number and press Enter. Clicking away also saves it; press Esc to cancel.

The value is colored against the target: green when on target, amber when within 5% of it, red when further off. Inverted metrics are colored the other way round.

Record values during a sync

If your team reviews numbers in its weekly meeting, owners can report them there instead. On the Scorecard step of a live sync, each metric has an input in the Current column. Type the value and press Tab, Enter, or click away to save it. A counter at the top shows how many metrics have been reported.

Values entered in a sync are the same values as on the Metrics page. There’s no separate copy to reconcile.

Check the history

Click any metric’s row to expand it. The history table lists recent entries, newest first, with the Date, Week or Month they belong to, the Value, the value as a percentage of target (vs Target), and the Change from the previous entry. The Trend column and sparkline in the main table are built from the same entries.

Fill in past periods

The scorecard only records values for the current period. To bring in earlier weeks, use Import on the Metrics page with a CSV that has one column per week (see Create a metric). The import only adds new metrics, so it’s for setting up a scorecard rather than topping up one you already have.

Record values automatically

If a number already lives in another system, you don’t need to type it at all:

Both options are in the metric’s Edit Metric dialog. Values that arrive this way land in the same period slots as ones typed by hand.

Tips

  • Agree a time each week when owners enter numbers, ideally before the sync. The guide on keeping your metrics current covers this.
  • If a number is off target and needs discussion, open the row and click Flag as challenge. See Raise a challenge.
