A push URL is a private URL that belongs to one metric. Anything that can send an HTTP POST — a Zapier step, a Google Sheets script, a cron job — can record a value with it. There’s no API key to store and no metric name to match: the URL itself is the credential, and it can only write to its own metric.
Create a push URL
- Go to Metrics and click the metric’s row to expand it.
- Click Edit Metric.
- In the Push URL box, click Create push URL.
- Copy the URL straight away. It’s shown once; after you close the dialog Clarion only shows its first few characters and when it was last used.
The URL looks like https://api.onclarion.com/v1/metrics/push/mpu_…. Push URLs are created in the app only — an API key can’t create or manage them.
Send a value
curl -X POST "https://api.onclarion.com/v1/metrics/push/mpu_YOUR_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"value": 1234}'
The fields can be JSON or a form-encoded body. If the body is empty, they’re read from the query string instead — POST …/mpu_YOUR_TOKEN?value=1234 — for tools that can only fire a bare POST.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
value | Yes | A number, or a numeric string. "1,234" and " 1234 " are accepted; "$12k" or "abc" is refused, never coerced. |
date | No | An ISO date such as "2026-09-07". Records that period instead of the current one. |
notes | No | A note stored with the value, up to 2,000 characters. |
The response
200 OK:
{ "metric": "Weekly Revenue", "value": 1234, "period": "2026-09-28" }
period is the start of the period the value was stored under: the day for daily metrics, the Monday for weekly metrics, the 1st for monthly metrics (all UTC). A date you send snaps to the same boundary.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
200 | Recorded. |
400 | value isn’t a number, or date can’t be parsed. |
404 | The URL is unknown, has been replaced or turned off, or its metric is archived. All four look the same on purpose. |
Re-running is safe
Writing to the same period again replaces that period’s value. A job that pushes every hour keeps the current week’s number fresh instead of adding rows. Each successful push also fires the metric.ingested webhook.
Rotate or turn off a URL
Open Edit Metric again:
- Generate new URL replaces the URL. The old one stops working immediately, so update whatever uses it.
- Turn off removes the URL. Anything still posting to it gets
404.
Treat it like a password
Anyone who has the URL can record values on that metric. The token sits in the path rather than a header because many no-code tools can’t set headers, which means it can end up in those tools’ logs. Share it only with the tool that needs it, and generate a new one if it may have leaked.
When to use something else
- Several metrics from one job? Use one API key with the ingest API.
- The number is already available as JSON at a URL? Let Clarion pull it on a schedule.
- Entering numbers by hand? See Record metric values.
